Corporation for National and Community Service, Serve WI, and AmeriCorps

The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) is a U.S. federal government agency that engages Americans in service through AmeriCorps, Learn and Serve America, Senior Corps, and other national service initiatives. Their mission is to “support the American culture of citizenship, service, and responsibility.”

Serve Wisconsin supports national service in Wisconsin primarily by granting AmeriCorps funds through the Corporation for National and Community Service to organizations that involve citizens in service activities that meet human, educational, environmental, public safety, and homeland security needs. Through their participation in AmeriCorps programs, citizens are given the opportunity to not only enrich the lives of the people and communities they serve, but also their own lives through professional and personal development. Serve Wisconsin also sits on the Volunteer Wisconsin steering committee to help promote and support general volunteering throughout the state.

AmeriCorps engages approximately 80,000 members in intensive service annually to serve through nonprofit, faith-based, and community organizations at 23,000 locations across the country. These members help communities tackle pressing problems while mobilizing millions of volunteers for the organizations they serve. Since 1994, more than 1 million Americans have provided more than 1.3 billion hours of service to their communities and country through AmeriCorps.

The Marshfield Clinic AmeriCorps Volunteer Wisconsin program is administered by Marshfield Clinic in partnership with the Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee. The program was developed on behalf of Volunteer Wisconsin, a coalition of local, regional and state organizations committed to serving as the state umbrella organization dedicated to volunteerism. The Marshfield Clinic AmeriCorps Volunteer Wisconsin members focus on increasing nonprofit capacity by effectively engaging and utilizing volunteers. Members recruit skilled and ongoing volunteers, and assess and strengthen the existing volunteer management system within the nonprofit.
